About Me

I met my husband, Chandler, in high school and we were married the day after Thanksgiving in 2010.  He is truly my best friend and confidant.  I'm glad he was able to survive my student teaching semester, crazy classroom spending, and my emotional roller coaster of a first year...all while renovating our house and traveling for work!  I'm telling ya'll...he's Superman in my books.

I graduated in 2011 from the University of South Carolina with my B.A. in Elementary Education.  During the 2013-2014 school year, I completed my M.Ed. in Divergent Learning from Columbia College.  It was a challenging year, but I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to earn my Masters in one year.  Everything I learned in the program I have been able to apply to my own teaching practices, and I know my students have benefited greatly from it.

I was blessed to have been offered a job at the school where I completed my senior practicum and student teaching.  I completed my student teaching in fourth grade, and spent my first three years teaching it alongside my awesome team.  This year, I am so excited to start a new adventure...teaching third grade!  I have always longed to teach it (see below), and I am so excited to join a new and just as wonderful team this year.

I love my third grade teachers, Mrs. Sercy and Mrs. Shepherd!  They made learning an adventure, and I credit them as well as my mother for inspiring me to become a teacher.  I was blessed to have many wonderful teachers growing up who expressed great enthusiasm in the classroom and motivated students to learn and do their best.  In middle school and high school there were teachers who inspired me, as well as teachers who acted as roadblocks.  Personally, I think it says a lot if you can get high school students excited about an assignment...and it also says a lot if your motto is, "If you can't learn it the way I teach it, you're on your own."

I strive to be a teacher like Mrs. Sercy and Mrs. Shepherd.  I want my students to be excited about learning, and I want them to love coming to school.  I feel that it is crucial to develop wonderful relationships with your students, and my former teachers certainly did that (and still keep in touch with me!).  They help serve as a daily reminder that my attitude, words, and actions can make or break a child every single day.
